Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has arrived at the home of one of the families who lost a child in Monday’s scholar transport crash in Vanderbijlpark.
She is accompanied by Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane as they pay their respects to the bereaved families following the tragedy that claimed the lives of 12 learners.
The visit comes after police arrested the driver of the minibus taxi transporting the school children.
The atmosphere is heavy and sombre as family members, neighbours and friends continue to enter the home of the grieving family - many in tears, others silently embracing as they pay their respects.
Gwarube and Chiloane have spent some time inside offering condolences and comfort to a family who are still coming to terms with the sudden loss of a child.
Outside there’s a stillness - broken only by soft cries and whispers – reflecting of a community united in grief.
