The CAF Confederation Cup resumes this weekend as former champions, seasoned campaigners, and ambitious debutants continue their push for continental honours.
A FAMILIAR FOE IN NDOLA
Kaizer Chiefs will resume their campaign with a trip to Zambia to face Zesco United at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. The Matchday 3, Group D fixture is scheduled for Sunday at 15:00.
This encounter marks the second time Amakhosi will face Zesco in African club competitions. The teams previously met over two legs in the 2018/19 CAF Confederation Cup play-off round, where Zesco secured a 5-2 aggregate victory.
THE GROUP D OUTLOOK
Both sides are currently searching for their first win in the competition. Egyptian powerhouses Zamalek and Al Masry currently lead the group standings.
The current points tallies in Group D are:
Al Masry: 6 points
Zamalek: 4 points
Kaizer Chiefs: 1 point
Zesco United: 0 points (pending results)
THE ROAD TO QUALIFICATION
If Kaizer Chiefs are to advance from the group stage, collecting maximum points from their next two matches is essential. Following Sunday’s away leg, Amakhosi will host the Zambians at Moses Mabhida Stadium just one week later.
With the two Egyptian clubs facing each other in back-to-back fixtures, two wins for Chiefs would elevate them to seven points. This would put the Soweto giants in a strong position to challenge Al Masry at home before their final group trip to face Zamalek.
With qualification margins narrowing across several groups, Matchday 3 represents a pivotal opportunity for clubs to either strengthen their grip on the standings or re-enter contention ahead of the decisive final rounds.
