Suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department chief Julius Mkhanazi will take the stand before Parliament's police Ad Hoc Committee on Thursday to answer to several allegations of corruption and being on the books of a member of a crime syndicate.

Mkhwanazi's appearance follows that of former Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) head Robert McBride's testimony on Wednesday, where he denied targeting police officials and trying to influence police operations.

Mkhwanazi has already appeared before the Madlanga Commission last year, where he was taken to task over his links to alleged crime kingpin Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala.

Mkhwanazi will take the stand to provide evidence about his links to Matlala and how he facilitated the installation of police blue lights in Matlala's private vehicles.

The Madlanga Commission also heard how Mkhwanazi received a R200,000 salary increase when he was appointed deputy police chief of EMPD, despite the blue lights scandal.

But Mkhwanazi, before the Madlanga Commission, denied fitting blue lights in vehicles belonging to Matlala and his company.

"I didn't install blue lights, I didn't brand the cars. The car i didn't see them physically."

Mkhwanazi's appearance is expected to be followed by forensic investigator Paul O'Sullivan next week, but it's still unclear whether he will appear in person.
