Minister of Higher Education Buti Manamela has called for the release of the matric results to be moved from January to an earlier date.
He said this will alleviate the pressure faced by institutions of higher learning to timeously place students before the start of the academic year.

“We believe that we can release the results much earlier, and so we agree that we need to find the sweet spot, which will help us with most of the challenges, including the fact that some parents are waiting for confirmation. We're hoping that by next results, we would have made a determination because it will help us with the registration process.”
Manamela denied that the post-school system is failing, with many students facing the possibility of not being placed immediately because of the sheer number of demand for university training.
“We've said to universities this morning that where possible, we need to be considerate in terms of our admission policies, but the reality is that the type of courses that are being demanded now and the capacity of the system to be able to respond to the, you know, to that demand is obviously compromised.”
