Civic organisation March and March leader Jacinta Ngobese Zuma has been charged with public violence linked to the protests at the Addington Primary School in Durban.
Since the reopening of schools, the organisation, together with MK party supporters and Operation Dudula held a number of demonstrations at the school.
They were demanding space for unregistered children who are South African by birth, alleging that the school has many foreign nationals.
However, the protests turned violent, and some parents were attacked.
The violent clashes between foreign nationals and South Africans resulted in police intervening and dispersing the crowds.
Ngobese Zuma has handed herself over to the Point Police Station, just a few kilometres from the primary school where the demonstrations took place.
She looked calm in the company of her legal team, which included her husband, as she entered the station.
She was welcomed by singing supporters.
Her attorney, Xolani Zuma, confirmed the charges.
“There’s no private individual that has opened the case, it is the state that has opened the case against March and March movement and as a leader of the movement she will be charged for representing the movement. The MK party has been charged as well and Operation Dudula has been charged with alleged public violence on 21 of January 2026 at Addington Primary School.”
A court date will be determined after the NPA decides whether to prosecute or not.
