The widow of a Manenberg resident who died during a police interrogation is demanding that the eleven Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) members charged with his murder remain behind bars.
Wade Price was taken into custody by the accused in December last year to be questioned regarding a murder that occurred outside the Athlone Magistrates' Court.
While police initially alleged that Price collapsed after complaining of an earache, an investigation by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) later determined that he died of unnatural causes.
The AGU members have since been charged with:
Murder
Kidnapping
Assault and Torture
Defeating the ends of justice
A BIRTHDAY TURNED TO TRAGEDY
Sandra Price recalls that she was celebrating her birthday when officers removed her husband from their Manenberg home on December 4th. Only a day later, she received the news that he had died while being interrogated.
"I have so much hatred inside of me. I have anger inside of me. Yoh. I can't explain how I feel inside and the saddest part is I have to be strong for my children. It's not that easy," she said.
THE FIGHT FOR ACCOUNTABILITY
Price expressed her hope that the accused officers will not be released on bail during their appeal hearing at the Western Cape High Court tomorrow.
"They have to suffer there inside. They must think about what they've done. The wives or the husbands or the children, they must feel it," she added.
The criminal matter is scheduled to return to the Athlone Magistrates' Court on March 5th.
