Acting Gauteng Judge President Aubrey Ledwaba has been shortlisted for the judge president post despite being implicated at the Madlanga commission of inquiry.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) released the names of candidates who will be interviewed for positions in the country’s superior courts.
Ledwaba is the only candidate shortlisted for judge president of the Gauteng division of the High Court.
The Madlanga commission is investigating allegations of corruption, criminality and political interference within the criminal justice system
Ledwaba was one of the names that were mentioned earlier on in the commission where it is alleged that that he was paid R2.5 million to release alleged crime kingpin Katiso 'KT' Molefe on bail.
But Ledwaba has denied this asking to be given an opportunity to make his side known before the commission.
He has also resisted pleas and calls for him to step aside amid the allegations instead continuing with his duties.
Now, he stands to be appointed permanently with his shortlisting to be interviewed in April.
