Local writers and book lovers are sharing the art of storytelling at the Cape Flats Book Festival this weekend.
The two-day event, which marks its fifth anniversary, kicked off on Saturday in Mitchells Plain. The festival serves as a vital platform for celebrating literacy, storytelling, and the diverse voices emerging from local communities.
Cultural Affairs and Sport MEC Ricardo Mackenzie emphasised that the event is inclusive of more than just traditional authors, welcoming poets, readers, and educators alike.
"The Cape Flats Book Festival is a space where young people see themselves reflected in stories, where local writers are affirmed, and where reading becomes a tool for empowerment and opportunity," said Mackenzie.
The festival continues to foster a culture of reading while providing a stage for local talent to be recognised and celebrated.
