Money: A Story of Humanity by David McWilliams explores the history of money and deep connections it has to humans.

The book takes the reader all the way to the invention of money, and how it began as a tool to make trade easier.

McWilliams then takes the reader through the ages as money gradually evolved into one of the most powerful forces shaping societies, empires and everyday life.

Instead of drowning the reader in economic jargon, the book uses storytelling to explain various financial concepts and ideas, such as why financial systems sometimes fail, why economic crises repeat themselves, and why debates about debt, inflation and currencies are really debates about human behaviour.

Ian Mann, managing director of Gateways Business Consultants reviewed the book in an interview with Stephen Grootes on The Money Show.

"Probably the most extraordinary book I've read since I cannot remember when."

- Ian Mann, managing director - Gateways Business Consultants

"Most economists are really very dry. He can't write a paragraph without being entertaining. What he's done is take the history of money from the very beginning when hunter/gatherers were using grains as medium of establishing value which they could share with other people."

- Ian Mann, managing director - Gateways Business Consultants

"His book is built on simply giving you insight into the most extraordinary things that happen."
