KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has sought to clarify the events that led to the seizure of Major General Lesetja Senona’s State gadgets.
Senona is accused of bypassing security protocol by failing to sign an after-hours register for all employees when arriving at the office on Saturday.

When asked what he was doing in the office, Senona chose to leave and attempted to take a State-issued computer and documents, but he was prevented from doing so.
KZN South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said before bypassing security, Senona acted strangely, choosing to park his car offsite and holding a meeting with a Hawks member in his car.
“The South African Police Service has a responsibility to safeguard sensitive information from leakage, and with Major General Senona's testimony at the Madlanga Commission revealing that he once sent out police documents to a private person.”
He said this raised serious security concerns
“The unusual events on the day compelled the security personnel on duty, especially those who were manning the camera system, to inform the Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, about the unusual activities which they observed.”
