Sanlam Investments has confirmed that its transaction with Ninety One is now officially in place, marking the start of a long-term strategic partnership between two of South Africa’s largest asset managers.
In practical terms, this means Sanlam has chosen Ninety One to help manage a significant portion of the money it invests on behalf of its clients. As part of the deal, nearly R400 billion in assets have been transferred to Ninety One for investment management.
Rather than managing all investments in-house, Sanlam believes partnering with Ninety One gives it access to deeper specialist skills, global research and a broader investment platform. This, in turn, is expected to benefit clients through more robust and competitive investment solutions.
Speaking to Stephen Grootes on The Money Show, Ninety One founder and CEO Hendrik du Toit says they hope this partnership can blossom into a long-term one, far beyond the 15 year deal that was signed.
"We have a very long client relationship. We're built for the long-term, we work with our clients for the long-term and we hope that in 15 years the Sanlam management say that this is the best thing we've ever done."
- Hendrik du Toit, CEO - Ninety One
"They've already made good money. They received shares in Ninety One which have gone up substantially since the deal was announced and the terms were agreed. But that they say our business is stringer and that we have a better active investment offering to give our clients, therefore we want to continue working this way."
- Hendrik du Toit, CEO - Ninety One
"We hope this partnership works and of course, Sanlam has always been a large client of Ninety One's, and now it's just a bigger client and we hope to grow with them as they should grow with us."
- Hendrik du Toit, CEO - Ninety One
