The Office of the National Director of Public Prosecutions said it wanted the Wynberg court shooting case heard in the Western Cape High Court.
Five suspects linked to the brazen shooting of Dingalomoya Chintso in April last year appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Shireen Matthews, Abubaker Adams, Brian Booysen, Wanay Farao, and Vuiyasani Zengethwa were being held at Pollsmoor Prison.
The alleged Junky Funky Kids gang members are facing gang-related charges, murder, and premeditated murder, among other charges.
The forum in which the case will be tried has not yet been finalised.
Prosecutors told the court they still needed to submit a memorandum to the Western Cape Judge President, motivating why the matter should be heard in the High Court.
The Judge President has requested six weeks to consider whether the case is suitable to be heard in that forum.
All five accused have denied any involvement in the murder.
The matter was postponed to 25 March for a possible High Court date and confirmation of legal representation for four of the accused.
