Police have recovered at least 16 bullets from the scene of an attempted hit on a man implicated in the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

According to police, the vehicle of Wiandre Pretorius was fired at by unknown gunmen while he was leaving his home in Boksburg.

Pretorius is under investigation—along with several other people—in connection to the murder of Emmanuel Mbhense, who was killed and had his body dumped at a lake in Germiston in April 2022.

Wiandre Pretorius’s bullet-ridden white bakkie is still parked outside his home. Police forensics teams in white coveralls have been combing through the scene, looking for spent cartridges and other clues.

Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni says a case of attempted murder has been opened.

"And of course in terms of investigating aids, we are combing through CCTV cameras of which we will explore in terms of the technology around this area."

Police say Pretorius has been taken to a safe location and they are in the process of obtaining a statement from him.
