The Defence department has condemned what it has described as mocking social media images of Defence and Military Veterans Minister Angie Motshekga.
The doctored pictures, which have been circulating online, depict the minister as frail and dependent on a walking stick.
The department described the images as sexist and misogynistic, emphasising that Motshekga is in good health and continues to carry out her duties diligently.
Department spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini said that such false depictions are an attack on the minister’s dignity and an attempt to mislead the public.
"It must be stated up front that the minister is well, in good health, with full faculties and continues to perform her duties diligently as required by the Constitution," said Dlamini.
"Any suggestion to the contrary is a deliberate falsification and an insult to the person of the minister aimed at casting aspersions and misleading the public."
