Youth in Khayelitsha say they are hopeful President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the social ills affecting their community when he meets them.

The President is expected to engage young people at a Presidential Youth Roundtable in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on Tuesday.

The event gives the youth an opportunity to raise their concerns directly with the President and members of his executive.

Khayelitsha continues to struggle with high youth unemployment, violent crime, gang activity, and substance abuse.

Youth activist Nkosikhona Swaartbooi says they want the President to speak directly to these challenges and offer real solutions.

"The President must know that young people in Cape Town are faced with a pandemic, a pandemic that is around gun and gang violence and we need interventions."

The roundtable is seen as a critical platform for youth voices to be heard at the highest level.
