Netflix to release Stranger Things animated series

Netflix has announced an animated spin-off to its popular Stranger Things series.

Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 is set in Hawkins during the winter of 1985 between the second and third seasons of the show.

The show was created by the Duffer brothers, Matt and Ross, who were executive producers on the original series, as well as thriller films Hidden and Wayward Pines. 

The characters from the original show will return with a twist to solve a new paranormal mystery with new monsters.

947’s pop culture fundi Zweli Mbhele is sceptical about the spin-off, after the mixed response of season five. 

The final episode of the fifth season, released on 31 December 2025, was slammed by critics for the final battle and the overall pace. 

“Do you feel like, because of the failure of season five, they now have to do this? Because I feel like it may have been canned at some stage and now we need something to bring us back in a sense?” he said.
