At least 1,000 pupils in Gauteng have still not been placed in schools, nearly two months after the start of the academic year.
Frustrated parents were forced to queue last month after more than 3,000 pupils remained unplaced when schools reopened.
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane said his department is working to resolve the delay.
"The delay is due to the mobile classrooms. There have been delays with the acquisition of mobile classrooms. We’ve had quite a challenge with mobile classrooms. In the interim, we have [put pupils] into temporary spaces until we get these classrooms into the schools fully compliant with norms and standards."
