Political parties said it would be out of touch for the president to not touch on the commission’s work.

The commission was established by the president to investigate allegations of corruption in the criminal justice system

In recent months, shocking revelations have exposed the extent of alleged corruption within the criminal justice system, with disturbing acts brought to light at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

To date, the commission has recommended that five senior police officials and nine Ekurhuleni Metro Police officers face investigation and possible prosecution.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) spokesperson Sinawo Thambo said he hopes the president will bring the nation into his confidence about how he plans to rid law enforcement of tainted officials.

“Crime was one of the priorities that he said he would focus on. He has established a commission of inquiry, and then the recommendations of the inquiry has led to him establishing another task team to look into the recommendations of the inquiry. As you can see that there is no commitment to do anything. He is in a permanent consultative and inquiry phase.”

Parliamentary teams are putting the final touches in place ahead of the president’s 10th address.

Police are also conducting last-minute security drills before hundreds of delegates arrive.

The president is expected to take the podium at 7pm on Thursday, while delegates will walk the red carpet from 5pm, showcasing their outfits.
