Parliament education committee condemns maladministration at College of Cape Town

Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Higher Education has condemned the maladministration at the College of Cape Town.

Higher Education Minister Bhuti Manamela previously appointed a task team to investigate serious governance failures at the college. 

The resulting report revealed that the principal had made several irregular appointments.

Tebogo Letsie, the chairperson of the committee, endorsed a recommendation that both the council and management be dissolved and the college placed under administration.

Letsie warned that if the council and principal chose to challenge the report’s findings in court, they should not be permitted to use public money.

“If the council and principal chooses to contest or challenge this report and its recommendations in court, they must never be allowed to use state funds," said Letsie.

"They can do so using their own funds from their own pocket and let's see if they will be able to win or have the appetite to contest if the state will not be paying for their litigation.”
