The City of Ekurhuleni said it expects a report within two months from an independent forensic firm appointed to vet Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officers.

This comes in addition to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) that the State Security Agency will also conduct vetting across metro police departments.
The vetting process began on Monday, with the private firm expected to compile a comprehensive report on the status of EMPD officers once it concludes.
City manager Kagiso Lerutla said the move is a step in the right direction.
“There is an accountability measure. We have invited the media – we are not doing this process somewhere in the corner. We have two months to conclude this process. Upon conclusion, a report will be presented to the mayor because he is the one overseeing this process.”
