Knysna's Joint Operations Committee has reported that the town now has 25 days of water storage.

Chairperson of the committee, Johnny Douglas, says the rains received last week helped raise the off-channel Akkerkloof Dam.

Douglas says the aim is to conserve water and delay "Day Zero" until the forecasted April rains. He adds that the committee is also monitoring the top 100 high consumers.

"I must thank the community of Knysna for working with us to conserve water, but the consumption is still very high," Douglas said. "It's about 10,000 kiloliters per day, and we need to reduce that urgently to about 8,000 kiloliters per day."

Douglas says the town has intensified its efforts to address water leaks.

"We've also signed a service level agreement with PG Bison within our area. They do have some boreholes on their farms. Gift of the Givers sponsored a five-by-30,000-litre tanker, so we are carting water from PG Bison into the system."
