Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya is expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Wednesday.
EWN understands Sibiya’s testimony will be heard over several days, possibly into Tuesday next week.
In March last year, EWN sat down with Sibiya to unpack some of the rumours around tensions between him and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
As early as March last year, Sibiya told EWN that there were attempts by Mkhwanazi to link him to alleged criminal kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
"Cat. They tried to associate me with Cat. They went, they searched him, they interrogated him. They took his cellphones, and they found nothing that involved me. They went and arrested some taxi boss, somewhere there, they’re trying to associate me with that person - I don’t know that person."
He stressed that he has nothing to hide.
"I am saying it now on record, they will find nothing in my house, they can come. I don’t have anything, I don’t have illicit goods, I don’t have weapons, I don’t have money in my house, they can come."
Seven months later, in October last year, a raid was conducted at Sibiya’s home by members of the National Intervention Unit (NIU), Special Task Force, and Crime Intelligence.
Several electronic devices were confiscated from Sibiya.
