Cachalia says task team to investigate senior SAPS & EMPD members named in Madlanga Commission interim report

Acting police minister Firoz Cachalia says a dedicated task team has been established to investigate senior members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Ekurhuleni municipality officials named in the interim Madlanga Commission report for criminal activity.
The commission's interim report identified five members of the SAPS and nine officers from the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD).

It said there is prima facie evidence suggesting criminal conduct, fraud, and corruption involving a total of 14 SAPS and EMPD officials.
Those mentioned include KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Lesetja Senona, national head of organised crime Richard Shiburi, and suspended EMPD deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi.
They are accused of maintaining inappropriate relationships with alleged crime boss Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala.
