ActionSA is set to announce its mayoral candidate for Johannesburg.
At least five of the party’s senior leaders applied for the position, with Mashaba being the only one with previous experience as former mayor of Johannesburg.
The announcement will be made on Saturday at Orlando Community Hall in Soweto.
ActionSA leaders from across the country, along with hundreds of supporters clad in the party’s green colour T-shirts have gathered at the Orlando Community Hall in Soweto.
Johannesburg is a key municipality for ActionSA, as it's the council where the party has the most seats.
Speaking to media on the sidelines, Mashaba said the city needs a strong leader to fix it.
“The city of Johannesburg is in big, big trouble and without Johannesburg working, South Africa cannot work. For us as ActionSA, this is one of the most important projects in the democratic history of our new South Africa.”
Saturday's event marks ActionSA’s second announcement of mayoral candidates in Gauteng’s three metros, with Xolani Khumalo having been announced as the candidate for Ekurhuleni.
