Some property experts have described budget 2026 as a consumer-friendly budget that should bring some welcome relief to taxpayers and support the growth of the economy.

The CEO of Jawitz Properties, Herschel Jawitz, said the inflationary increase to tax bracket thresholds is a welcome change from 2025, when the brackets weren’t adjusted.

He said it puts more disposable income into the pockets of South Africans.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana delivered the budget speech in Parliament on Thursday.

While increases in fuel levies and excise duties were expected, Jawitz said they are inflation-linked and don’t add significant additional pressure to consumers.

"If you take into account this budget together with a lower interest rate environment, a lower inflation environment, and an economy that seems to be slowly starting to turn even off a low base.

"It all goes well for consumers for the balance of the year, and it should continue to have a positive impact on the residential property market, with more disposable income in the pockets of consumers, and that's good for demand.”
