The attorney representing alleged criminal kingpin, Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala, has suggested the state is delaying the matter from going to trial.
Matlala, his wife Tsakane, and their three co-accused appeared in the Johannesburg High Court on attempted murder charges on Thursday.
They are accused of planning and executing three botched hits, including one on Matlala’s socialite ex-girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane.
The matter was meant to proceed with the pretrial conference, but was postponed to next month to allow the state to furnish the defense with certain documentation.
Matlala's legal representative, advocate Anneline van den Heever, claims the state is delaying the matter by not providing certain particulars they've requested.
"Pure omissions on the state's part or deliberately withheld, I respectfully submit. There are videos that we’ve not been provided eccetera. So, these are not documents, I respectfully submit, the state can deny disclosing to the defense."
