Two rhino calves have been rescued in the Kruger National Park after they were found without their mother.

Visitors spotted the pair resting beside the road near the Malelane section on Saturday and alerted park authorities.

Kruger National Park rangers said the two rescued rhinos were 12 and 18 months old.
 
The calves have been relocated to a place of safety.

The 12-month-old was airlifted by helicopter and the older rhino was transported in a crate.

Park authorities are investigating the whereabouts of the mother.
