A 51-year-old suspect has been arrested following a multi-million Rand bribery sting linked to alleged tender fraud in the City of Cape Town.
The arrest comes after a senior municipal official rejected a bribe from a service provider and alerted the police.
An undercover operation at Watercress Mall, in Somerset West, led to the seizure of R1.4 million in cash, a vehicle and a cell phone on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Novela Potelwa said more arrests are expected.
"A 51-year-old man is expected to appear in court on Thursday after an undercover operation was executed on Tuesday afternoon, wherein the suspect, who is a service provider within the City of Cape Town municipality, allegedly offered a senior municipal official an amount of R1.4 million in exchange for halting investigations into tender fraud at the municipality."
