National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader and member of Parliament (MP) Fadiel Adams believes he did the right thing when he used classified intelligence to open criminal cases against senior police members.
Adams was giving evidence before Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating allegations of police corruption on Wednesday night.
Adams has been accused by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi of recklessly mishandling the information that Adams used to open a case against Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo.
But Adams said he has no regrets.
“I did the right thing. I don’t care what anybody else thinks. I did the right thing. I asked in the police portfolio why general Khumalo was allowed to buy cell phone grabbers, obsolete cell phone grabbers that have never worked.”
He also said the evidence implicating Khumalo was given to him anonymously.
“I assumed it was slipped under the door. I opened the envelope and inside it there appeared to be evidence of criminality, and it was evidence implicating some very serious people in the police.”
