The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has recalled more than 25,000 VW Polo Vivo vehicles following a defective handbrake.
It's suspected the handbrake may not engage or could disengage unexpectedly, posing a safety risk when a car is parked on an incline.
This is the third recall for the German manufacturer between 2025 and 2026.
Other recalls included the Polo Tiago, Polo sedan, and the Amarok van.
Consumer Commission spokesperson Phetho Ntaba has urged Polo Vivo owners to get their vehicles to any VW dealership for inspection urgently.
She further said the commission is monitoring the recall closely to ensure compliance.
"VW further advised that owners of the affected vehicles should take the following precautionary measures until the vehicle has been inspected and, where necessary, repaired. First, ensure that the vehicle is parked with additional precaution, such as selecting first gear for manual vehicles or 'P' for automatic models, as specified in the owner’s manual. Do not park the vehicle on any slope (uphill or downhill) until the inspection and any required repairs have been completed.”
