Motorists in the Mother City are being advised to plan their travel on Sunday, as major routes have been cordoned off for the 48th Cape Town Cycle Tour.

Over 30,000 cyclists are hitting the roads, tackling either the gruelling 109-kilometre route or the faster 42-kilometre course.

Riders kick off in the city centre and pedal along the scenic Cape Peninsula route, finishing in Green Point, with stunning views guaranteed along the way.

The tour means road closures on key routes including the M3 outbound, Nelson Mandela Boulevard, Hospital Bend Interchange, Victoria Road in Camps Bay, and the M4 through the Deep South.

Sections of Helen Suzman Boulevard and Chapman’s Peak Drive are also closed.

Authorities are urging motorists and commuters to plan ahead and use alternative routes wherever possible.
