Heatwave alert issued for Northern and Western Cape

A heatwave warning has been issued for parts of the Northern and Western Cape.

The South African Weather Service states that temperatures will start rising from tomorrow and continue until Friday. Forecasts predict highs between 36°C and 42°C, with the hottest conditions expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Scorching conditions are also expected to spread to parts of the Central and Little Karoo.

Forecaster Joey Malebana warns that the prolonged hot weather could increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.

"Daytime temperatures are expected to reach the high 30s to low 40s in some areas, and residents are encouraged to stay well-hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, and take appropriate precautions to stay cool," says Malebana.
