Kaizer Chiefs’ sporting director, Kaizer Motaung Jr, has taken accountability following the club’s recent struggles, including a four-game losing streak.

He acknowledged the team’s poor performance, especially in crucial fixtures against Orlando Pirates and Richards Bay.

He highlighted the importance of accountability and taking responsibility for the team’s actions.

He conceded that the current results were not acceptable and that the team needs to get back on track.

“In the derby against Orlando Pirates, we have to take full responsibility.

“It was something that we understand exactly how the other supporters feel. We let ourselves down, we let the country down. It was an embarrassing display.”

Motaung also addressed criticism surrounding the team’s co-coaching arrangement, following the exit of head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

He explained that the decision was made to provide stability and continuity during a critical period.

“We wanted to create an environment where the coaches and players could give their best… But we also understand that results are not coming, and we need to make decisions to change that,” he said.

Motaung acknowledged concerns from fans, including the need for a clear plan and accountability from management.

He emphasised the importance of preserving the club’s history and reputation.

“It took about three years since I came into my role for us to reserve a squad, change the average age, and we saw ourselves winning a trophy last year. We are very much focused and understand exactly what this team means to us and future generations.

"We're not here to put a band-aid over anything… We want to listen to the fans, hear their concerns, and work together to find solutions."
