Search and rescue teams have been struggling to reach the areas underground where the miners were working due to concerns regarding structural integrity.

Ekapa Resources and Ekapa Minerals have refused to disclose the name of the miner whose body was found at the request of the family.

The company said formal identification processes are underway, and further information may be shared once these procedures are completed.

The company previously indicated it would take at least 18 months to work through the mudslide at the shaft.

Meanwhile, the mine has announced it will shut down after applying for liquidation.
