Dlabathi remains Ekurhuleni Finance MMC and ANC regional secretary despite resignation

Despite resigning as the Finance MMC in Ekurhuleni and the African National Congress (ANC)’s regional secretary, Jongizizwe Dlabathi will remain in both his positions.

In February, the ANC in the city was rocked by uncertainty and instability after Dlabathi unexpectedly resigned from both posts.

It’s understood that his resignation was sparked by a fallout with the mayor and ANC regional leader, Doctor Xhakaza.

However, he returned to the positions on Tuesday and occupied his space in the city council.

Internal divisions and squabbles within the ANC had left the party’s structure in Ekurhuleni in limbo after a key figure resigned as its regional secretary and the city’s Finance MMC.

Insiders confirmed that Dlabathi was very angry at Xhakaza following a massive fallout.

However, the ANC’s national leaders rejected Dlabathi’s resignation, in which he had relinquished his position as Finance MMC and as the party’s regional secretary.

Dlabathi was advised to return to both positions, especially now that the local government elections are fast approaching.
