South African prop Cebo Dlamini continues to tread on the road less travelled after signing a 2-year deal with Gallagher Premiership side Sale Sharks.
The vast majority of players wait to establish themselves in South Africa and get selected for the Springboks before moving overseas.
Dlamini, however, will follow a path few have taken by moving to England, much like Jasper Wiese, who became a powerhouse in that league before becoming a vital component of the 2023 Rugby World Cup- winning team.
Dlamini captained the Griquas in their historic Currie Cup title-winning season in 2025 and represented the Kimberley-based side in 34 matches before attracting the attention of overseas suitors.
A brief loan spell in the United Rugby Championship (URC) with Durban franchise, the Sharks, was followed by a move to Wales to join the Dragons. His time there, however, was cut short to just 7 appearances before having surgery on an injured foot.
Still only 24, Dlamini is highly rated by his new club and Director of Rugby Alex Sanderson hopes his addition will prove invaluable.
“Cebo is a really positive guy, an infectious character who likes to laugh and who’s captained his club at 24 years old. On top of that, he’s a really good player. I think he could be a really rare find for us. He’s gone under the radar his whole career, but clearly he has the potential to be a really good Prem player because basics are very, very good,” said Sanderson.
Dlamini is still recovering from his surgery and will link up with his new teammates ahead of the 2026/27 season. Having played for the Bulls, Griquas, Sharks and Dragons already in his short career, he’s determined to put his best foot forward.
“I want to find a club that I can call home so I can try and reach my full potential. I know that a lot of South African players have gone to the Prem and become much better players through the quality and professionalism of the league,” said Dlamini
