Suspended police head for organised crime Richard Shibiri has rubbished allegations that he tried to bribe officers investigating a suspected crime cartel boss.
Witness A and Witness B have testified before the Madlanga Commission that Shibiri once called them to his office and told them there were envelopes with money being offered for investigators in a case they were working on.
However, Shibiri said he was warning the officers that he had received information that someone would try to bribe them.
At the time, the two officers were investigating suspected crime boss, Katiso ‘KT’ Molefe, for the murder of Vereeniging engineer, Armand Swart.
Shibiri said he was planning on setting up a sting operation to entrap the people who would try to bribe the investigators.
“I said there will be a bribe brought to you, and consequently, when you don’t take a bribe, there will be a threat to you because these people are hitmen and even if you take the money, there will still be a case to you because the case won’t be gone away.”
