President Cyril Ramaphosa said the special task team he announced in January to implement the Madlanga Commission recommendations is already yielding results, and action is being taken against those implicated.

But Ramaphosa said that they can’t publicly release the full Madlanga interim report to protect any potential witnesses who might still appear.

Ramaphosa was responding to questions in the National Assembly on Thursday and his reasons for not releasing the interim report to the public.

He said the special task team is already at work and has identified those implicated within law enforcement.

Ramaphosa said the commission directed that there should be urgent decisions on prosecution where required.

He said with respect to individuals currently employed in the law and intelligence services, and where there is prima facie evidence, they must be charged.

“The team will institute investigations against those identified by the commission for such investigations. Matters that require disciplinary action are currently being attended to by the relevant departments. Some are resulting in suspensions, and some are resulting in immediate disciplinary processes that are underway.”

He said the commission still has to release another report before it releases its final report, which he said will be made public.
