The family of anti-apartheid activist Mosiuoa “Terror” Lekota must now begin life without their father after he was laid to rest on Saturday.

Lekota was ushered to his final resting place in Bloemfontein in the afternoon, just over a week after his passing.

Some of his relatives struggled to contain their emotions as they watched his coffin being lowered into the ground.

Draped in the South African flag, the coffin carrying the remains of Lekota was escorted to his final resting place by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Ceremonial Unit.

The flag was then removed, carefully folded, and handed to Deputy President Paul Mashatile, who in turn, presented it to Lekota’s wife and son.

Some of Lekota’s relatives could not contain their emotions as they watched his coffin being lowered into the ground.

Tears flowed freely as some stood with their heads bowed in pain, while others comforted one another during the difficult moment.

The family said that they never expected that they would have to say their final goodbyes to their father so soon.

They add that imagining a future without him has been difficult, and accepting their new reality will not be an easy task.
