Counsel for former President Jacob Zuma has approached the South Gauteng High Court to compel the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) inquiry to disclose information that he said demonstrates gross misconduct on the part of the commission chair Sisi Khampepe.
The information relates to an allegation that Khampepe assisted the commission’s evidence leaders on how to respond to Zuma’s application to recuse herself as chairperson of the commission.

Former presidents Zuma and Thabo Mbeki have objected to Khampepe chairing the TRC cases inquiry, citing her involvement with the original TRC Commission and her role as a Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions between 1988 and 1999.
Advocate Dali Mpofu told a full bench of judges that a whistleblower has alleged that Khampepe coached evidence leader Advocate Ishmael Semenya on how to respond to the application for her to recuse herself.
Mpofu described Khampepe’s alleged action as gross misconduct and corrupt.
“The chairperson had committed to actions that amount to bias, gross misconduct and or corruption in that she had coached and colluded with one of the parties in the Semenya SC application, namely Semenya SC himself in that she advised him of weaknesses in his case and went as far as sharing research in her possession.”
