The forestry, fisheries and environment ministry is willing to support and work with the custodian of the previously dispossessed land in uMzimkhulu in KwaZulu-Natal to create economic opportunities.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is in the area on Friday to hand over title deeds to communities who were dispossessed in the past.
The over 17 000 hectors of land will be reinstated to four claimant communities, namely the St Paul community, the Ngujini community, the Ndaimankulu/Vierkant community and the Lawrence family.
Some of the beneficiaries have been hoping for this day for the past 50 years now.
Minister of forestry, fisheries and environment Wille Aucamp said, "This presents a new future filled with hope and lots of opportunities, not only for tittle deed owners but for future generations because as custodians, you’ll live it with them and will inherit this land, walk it, work it and will benefit from it.”
