SA Presents Key SADC Resolution on Women and HIV/AIDS at UN

South Africa has concluded its participation at the 70th session of the commission on the status of women with a renewed push for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
The gathering led by women, youth and persons with disabilities Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga joined global leaders under the United Nations to evaluate progress and strengthen cooperation.
South Africa presented and secured the adoption of a regional resolution on women, the girl child, and HIV and Aids on behalf of SADC member states.
Spokesperson Cassius Selala said that the country reiterated its promise to the Beijing declaration and platform for action.
"During the session, South Africa reaffirmed the enduring importance of the Beijing declaration and platform for action as a global framework for advancing women’s rights and achieving substantive equality for women and girls," said Selala.
