Gauteng police officer Sergeant Fannie Nkosi told the Madlanga Commission it was a "human error" that led to him omitting a link between Deputy President Paul Mashatile and controversial businessman Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala.
In October last year, Sergeant Nkosi’s home was raided by police who were looking for Matlala’s credit card.
In the aftermath of the raid, Nkosi made a handwritten statement to police saying Matlala once called him asking for the card back because he was meeting with Mashatile and Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya.

"He called me again, telling me that he needs the card urgently as he was going to meet with the Deputy President, Paul Mashatile," said Nkosi.
He said as he read a portion of the statement into the record.
Nkosi has previously been questioned at the commission about why he had Matlala’s black credit card in his possession.
In his statement submitted to the commission and oral testimony, the sergeant had never mentioned Mashatile.
When asked why he had left out this part of the story, Nkosi replied: "It was a human error, but I repeat that what I have stated there is what I heard from Mr Matlala at that time."
He denied trying to protect the deputy president, adding he did not know what the meeting with Matlala was about or if it ever took place.
