Bafana Bafana return to international action on Friday night in Durban as they take on Panama in the first of two international friendlies.

The clashes for both nations form part of their preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, where South Africa will kick off their campaign against co-hosts Mexico on June 11. This is the first outing for South Africa since their disappointing AFCON 2025 campaign, which saw them knocked out in the Round of 16.

In early team news, head coach Hugo Broos has confirmed that Bongokuhle Hlongwane and Mbekezeli Mbokazi will not feature in this match. Both players are dealing with jet lag following their travel from the United States.

Tactically, all eyes are on rising star Relebohile Mofokeng. There is a strong expectation that he will be deployed in the "number 10" position, as he is entrusted with a new, creative role within the squad’s attacking structure.

This clash is likely the penultimate fixture South Africa will play on home soil before the World Cup begins in June. After the recent continental disappointment, fans will be hoping Bafana Bafana can reward their support with a sparkling performance over the 90 minutes.
