Close Jacob Zuma ally Magasela Mzobe has resigned as the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s head of Presidency.

Insiders believe a fallout between Mzobe and Zuma may have influenced his decision to leave the position.

Mzobe, however, said he resigned to focus on his football club, Newcastle All Stars FC, and other sports-related ventures.

Mzobe is known as a staunch Zuma loyalist, who often described himself as the MK Party president’s “eyes, ears and hands”.

The MK Party has confirmed that Mzobe is no longer the head of Presidency in the party. However, the party has refused to provide reasons for his resignation.

Mzobe has confirmed that he will remain an MK Party member and continue as its International Relations head.
