Long-awaited repairs to the upper section of Kloof Road are finally getting underway.
The City of Cape Town says this follows the completion of all the necessary preparations and approvals to work within this environmentally sensitive area which falls within Table Mountain National Park,
More than two years have passed since the section between Kloof Nek Road and Round House Road was closed after a storm caused severe damage in September 2023, with further damage occurring during heavy winter rains in 2024.
Kloof Road is one of the access routes that links the City Bowl with the Atlantic Seaboard suburbs of Camps Bay, Clifton, Bantry Bay and Sea Point. Repairs started earlier near the lower end of this key route.
The city said that the project should be complete in December 2026, pending any delays or unforeseen challenges.

Teams have started preparing for the installation of gabion retaining walls to stabilise the slope and support the roadway, said Ward Councillor Nicola Jowell during a site visit with Mayoral Committee Member Rob Quintas (Urban Mobility).
"This is a highly complex project taking place in very difficult conditions with steep terrain, limited access and the need to carefully navigate existing services such as water mains and fibre infrastructure while also protecting the environment."
Quintas emphasized that this section of Kloof Road remains closed also to users like pedestrians or cyclists and cannot be used for recreational purposes during this time.
He said they intend to capitalise on the good weather before winter arrives and pledged to provide regular feedback to the public on the progress of the roadworks.
