The exact circumstances surrounding the murder and dismemberment of an 80-year-old woman in Bellville South, allegedly at the hands of her 63-year-old sister, remain the subject of an intense ongoing investigation.

On Monday, the case against Aletta Rose was postponed in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court.

Rose was taken into custody two weeks ago following the discovery of Constance Scholtz's body in the home the sisters shared.

The charges extend far beyond the initial report of murder.

The state alleges a particularly gruesome crime scene, accusing the defendant of decapitating her sister and severing her hands.

These harrowing details have left the local community in shock as investigators work to piece together the final moments of the victim's life.

During court proceedings, Legal Aid was officially appointed to represent Rose.

Her defence team immediately requested that she be sent for psychological observation to determine her fitness to stand trial.

However, this request met with significant push back from both the accused herself and the state.

The prosecution argued that the severity and brutality of the crime do not automatically warrant a psychological observation, maintaining that the nature of the act alone is not sufficient evidence of mental instability.

The matter has been postponed to May 5th.

This extension will allow investigators to finalise reports regarding the specific methods used to kill the victim and to gather further forensic evidence required for the prosecution.
