Democratic Alliance (DA) mayoral candidate in Tshwane, Cilliers Brink, said he believed the time was right for him to take up a key and strategic leadership role within the party.

Brink is among seven candidates contesting the deputy federal chairperson position at the DA’s upcoming national congress, which will be held in Midrand this weekend.

While the position is occupied by three people, Brink believes it would allow him to take part in decision-making relating to coalitions, election preparations, and the party’s future.

He said that while he already carried significant responsibility as the party’s mayoral candidate in the capital, he was also ready to take on an internal leadership role.

"I have experience and I have learnt from the past and I think I can make a valuable contribution to positioning the party as well as to get government working," Brink said.
