The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has made another change in its leadership, appointing its Member of Parliament (MP), Sibonele Nomvalo, as the party's secretary general, replacing Bongani Mncwango.

The organisation announced the changes during a briefing in Durban on Thursday night.

It’s also made changes in the KwaZulu-Natal structure, with Simphiwe Mpungose taking over as provincial secretary, Gobizizwe Makhanya is now the new provincial organiser, while Tholakele Dlamini takes over as head of elections.

Nomvalo, who is serving in the ad hoc committee investigating the alleged infiltration into the law enforcement agencies, will now assume the party’s big role.

The chairperson of the parliamentary ad hoc committee probing police graft, Soviet Lekganyane, congratulated Nomvalo on his new role.

“We want to wish you well in your new responsibility and hope that you will continue to be calm, composed and calculated in the decisions that you take and committed to the role the organisation has given you.”

As a former secretary of the African National Congress (ANC) and South African Communist Party (SACP), Lekganyane urged Nomvalo to hold his new job with esteem.

“The work of the secretary is not easy. Those who know it mostly call it a thankless job.”
