The National Consumer Commission (NCC) is warning consumers to immediately stop using certain ESR Halolock wireless power banks, citing fire safety concerns.

The recall affects the product’s 2g505b model.

The Commission says the power banks imported from China and sold by online retailers between 2023 and 2024 pose a risk of overheating, which could lead to fires or burns.

NCC spokesperson Phetho Ntaba has urged consumers who own the affected devices to return them to the point of purchase for a refund.

"These power banks are recalled due to a defect that can actually pose a risk of fire as the lithium-ion batteries can overheat whilst in use."
